A member of the governing New Patriotic
Party’s (NPP) Communication team,
Hopeson Adorye says he will mobilize
members of his party to take over all public
toilets in the country.
He said their move is in retaliation to similar
violent takeovers by supporters of the
opposition National Democratic Congress
(NDC) in 2009 when the party won power.
'We experienced the same situation in the
hands of supporters of the NDC when the
NPP lost in 2009, therefore will not relent in
our efforts to pay them back.
'We will continue seizing and taking over
toilets and all government properties
because we are in power' he said in Twi on
Accra-based Okay FM.
Some youth alleged to be loyalists of the
NPP in other regions of the country after the
Electoral Commission (EC) declared
candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
winner of the December 2016 polls besieged
public toilets to take over its management.
Others have gone to some government
institutions claiming their party is now in
power and they have the right to take over
state agencies.
There have been concerns that the party is
looking on unconcerned with calls on the
President to speak on the unfortunate
development.
But at a press briefing held last week, Police
PRO, Superintendent Cephas Arthur said the
Ghana Police Service has been working to
maintain peace.
He disclosed the police have arrested 16
persons in connection with the post-election
violence and have had them arraigned before
the court to be prosecuted to serve as
a deterrent.
The Service has directed its regional
commanders to arrest all perpetrators by
Friday, January 20.
But Mr. Adorye said, the police especially the
Inspector General of Police (IGP) John
Kudalor and the PPO have no right to arrest
them [alleged NPP supporters] because the
two officers have been acting in the interest
of the NDC.
“When the NPP is attacked, Cephas Arthur
and his cohorts don’t even bother arresting
people but when NDC is attacked, then they
start taking measures and issuing releases
and condemning it," he said.
“We are going to take action against these
bias policemen because they are all active
members of the NDC. We are going to make
sure that some of these officers will not be
at post” he declared.
